I would rate The Right Stuff 9 out of 10 because I liked all the information given in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes planes and rockets and want to know it's history because in this book they gives us some information about planes and rockets as people use them a lot in the story. It is also a good book for the people who want to know about who went to space from US for the first time. They will also get to know about those people's past. This book is also good for the people who like to read nonfiction stories as the story has happened in real life. It is about the seven astronauts for the mercury mission. It talks about what it is. It also gives us information about astronauts and pilots during that time.

The theme of this story is pushing the Envelope. This phase was used a lot in the book. This means to attempt to extend the current limits of performance and to go beyond commonly expected boundaries. This theme is show in the book by many examples like Chuck Yeager breaking the speed of sound. People going to space and orbited the earth these where all known to be impossible during that time. These examples supports the theme as it shows how people went beyond the expected boundaries and made new records. The author uses many more examples like these to tell us what the theme is.  This book is about Pilot who break different record, pilots who became astronauts for the USA. It is about their life. It talks about the mercury mission and about what happened in this mission.

The movie of this book was made by 1983 directed by Philip Kaufman. I have seen the movie. I think it is a very nice move it include almost every thing from the book. The movie is mainly about the mercury mission and about Chuck Yeager breaking different records as the book is. I think people who like planes and would likes to know about the first seven astronauts from US, this will be a good movie to watch.
While every one was busy over the mercury missions . Chuck Yeager tried making new altitude and speed record in which he succeeded in some and failed in some. one of his famous tries was when he used the NF-104 and risked his life where he had almost died.He had climbed 104,000 feet and got seriously injured but he returned back to flying after 6 weeks. This shows how interested and involved he is in flying and breaking new records.

Deke Slayton was one of the seven mercury mission astronaut. He was supposed to be flying on the second orbit flight but couldn't because of a erratic heart rate. He was replaced by Scott carpenter( one of the seven mercury mission astronaut). He was lucky that he got one more chance to go to space at the age of 51 which was the record of being one of the oldest man to go to space but was beaten by John Young who went to space at the age of 53 and John Glenn who broke Young's record by going to space at the age of 77.  He then died at the age of 69 on June 13, 1993.
"Crossfield, White, Walker, Armstrong,- they no longer had time to even about the Mercury mission." What is project mercury? It was the mission in which USA tried to get their astronauts to space and orbit earth. It took place from 1959 to 1963 done by NASA.NASA had to select 7 astronaut from more than a million of pilot .  They had to select people from some specific size so that they could get into the space shuttle which was too small to get people who where taller than the height 5 feet 11 inches. They had to be able to pass the entire test. They had tests like their health test, they would see if the astronaut could handle the G force from the rocket, They would put people into different rooms to see what they do when they are in zero gravity or when the oxygen level is down. They would note everything including their the number of time they scratched their nose, body how they moved etc. It took them two years to select a seven for the best pilots for the mercury mission. The seven astronauts the selected were, John Glenn, Alan Shepard, Virgil Grissom, Malcolm Carpenter, Walter Schirra, Gordon Cooper and Donald Slayton. They started the mission by sending 2 monkey into space Albert 1 and 2 to see if they survive or not. Alan Shepard was the first American to go to space followed by Grissom after him John Glen, after him Carpenter after him schirra, after him Cooper. Slayton could not go on any of the mercury mission because of an erratic heart rate but would go to space at the age of 51.

Yeager is one of the character in the story. He was a army and a test pilot. He fought in the second world war. He was one of the pilot who was caught during the second world But was released. After coming back he continued to be a air force pilot. this shows this shows that Yeager is not scared of anything, he is not scared of death and that he loves his country. He is the first person who broke the speed of sound (mark 1) for the first time. This also shows that he likes challenges and tries till he does not succeed. He also helped his country by being a test pilot

Jane Conrad and Pete Conrad are some of the characters in the story.Jane Conrad is a character who you can predictable about. As all wife would like her husband to be safe and not die But her husband Pete Conrad is a character who is not predictable as you can't say what he is going to do next.He goes through a big change as he became a astronaut from a test pilot.
In chapter two the author is comparing ambitious test pilot to a ziggurat an ancient Babylonian  pyramid with its steps and terrace. The author also takes about how pilot have a hard time landing a plane in to a aircraft carrier in a sea as it is only 60 feet above the water and also tell us why it is hard.

The setting in the book and the movie are completely different. In the book the story starts by tell in us about a pilot called Pete Conrad, and his wife Jane Conrad and how people say that her husband might have died in a plain crash. In the movie the story starts  by telling us about how many people die while trying to brake the sound barrier.
